The Pacific Coast region centred on Playa Hermosa offers some of the best surf in the country. Costa Rica and Playa Hermosa has hosted and organized the Billabong World Surfing Games. The best time to surf in Playa Hermosa is from April to November, when the tide is high and rising. Due to excellent swell exposure from the south-southwest, waves will stay consistently in the head high range, with plenty of bigger days. The beach break at Playa Hermosa has an ample amount of power and sees good left and right peaks. If you’re keen to venture off, the resort offers guided tours to some the best breaks in the area, of which there are about a dozen. Boca Baranca is a smoking river mouth lefthander, while Escondido is a solid reef break with fun left and right barrels. Your guide will know exactly where to go and he will put you on the best waves according to the current conditions and your ability level.
